FAQs
What is a CDN?
-
A Content Delivery Network (CDN) is a system of distributed servers that delivers website content from the server closest to your site visitors. By reducing the physical distance between your site and its users, a CDN improves loading times and ensures a better browsing experience, especially for global audiences.
When should I use a CDN?
-
Using a CDN would be beneficial in the following situations.
- High-Traffic Websites: CDNs handle traffic spikes more efficiently, ensuring your site remains fast and reliable.
- Global Audience: If your visitors are spread across the globe, a CDN ensures fast loading times by serving content from nearby servers.
- Media-Heavy Sites: Websites with images, videos, or downloadable files benefit from reduced load times and faster media delivery.
- Security Needs: Many CDNs, including Bunny CDN, add layers of protection against DDoS attacks and other threats.
When Is a CDN Not Necessary?
-
Although CDNs are very powerful, they are not needed in some circumstances.
- Local Audience: If most of your traffic is from a single region near your hosting server, a CDN may not offer significant benefits.
- Low-Traffic Websites: Smaller, less active sites may not see a noticeable performance difference.
Bunny CDN features
This section provides additional information about features available on Bunny CDN plans.
Points of Presence (PoP)
The Essential CDN plan includes 10 Points of Presence (PoPs) worldwide: 4 in the US, 3 in Asia, 2 in Europe, and 1 in South America.
Upgrading to Ultra CDN or Max CDN plans grants access to 119 PoPs for improved global coverage. For a full list of PoP locations, visit Bunny CDN's network page.
Image Optimization
Bunny CDN automatically reduces file size, compresses content, and optimizes static files. This feature is available on all CDN tiers.
Perma-Cache
The Perma-Cache feature is available with the Max CDN Tier. A Perma-Cache is a permanent caching layer between Bunny CDN and DreamHost.
When a file isn’t cached on the CDN, it first checks Geo-Replicated storage before requesting it from DreamHost servers. This reduces server load and improves performance by serving uncached files from storage locations closer to the CDN nodes. If the file isn’t found, it is retrieved from the DreamHost server and stored in the background for future requests.
Perma-Cache includes up to two replication zones in addition to the primary region, meaning files can be permanently stored in up to three regions rather than just one. This configuration can be managed by going to Manage Websites > Manage > Settings > Perma-Cache section.
