Overview
This article provides details about the Traffic page available in the DreamHost panel.
Background
The Traffic dashboard retrieves information from the access.log file stored in the user's directory that manages the site. If a website becomes inaccessible and stops receiving traffic, the dashboard reflects this and ensures that you are able to view your site's actual performance.
The Traffic feature is only available on fully hosted domains, as it relies on data from your site's access.log. The Traffic tab does not appear for DreamCompute or redirected sites.
Per GDPR, DreamHost stores HTTP logs by default for 7 days.
How to view and manage graphs
The Traffic page in the DreamHost panel provides a detailed analysis of your website's visitor activity. It includes data on unique and total requests, user demographics (device usage and location), individual visitor data, and bot activity. This information can be used for SEO optimization, trend identification, and problem-solving.
If your site has Bunny CDN services enabled, the Visitors and Bots tabs on the Traffic page won't display any data. This is expected, as traffic is routed through Bunny CDN servers and is not recorded in the standard access.log.
To view Bunny CDN metrics, select the Bunny CDN tab in the same section.
Viewing graphs
To view your site's traffic graphs:
- Navigate to the Manage Websites page.
- Click the Manage button to open Website settings, which allows you to modify various configurations for your site.
-
Click the Traffic tab.
The Traffic page opens and automatically displays a detailed graph of user visits to your site.
Managing graphs
To switch between traffic graphs use the Visitors, Bots, or Bunny CDN tabs at the top of the page. See the following articles to learn more about these graphs:
By selecting the option on the top right corner, you can view graphs for 7-day trends and 24-hour periods. These graphs refresh every hour.
The Bunny CDN tab includes an additional Last Month view.
Monitoring in real-time
You can use either SSH or FTP to monitor your site's access.log in real time.
