This article explains different options to remove an SSL certificate from your domain.

Only remove an SSL certificate if absolutely necessary

When you remove an SSL certificate, any internal links within your site that start with HTTPS will immediately throw an insecure browser warning, which could cause visitors to avoid your website. See the following articles for further details.

It's highly recommended your website maintain an active SSL certificate to keep your site and data secure. DreamHost offers a free Let's Encrypt certificate you can install in the panel to simplfy this process. 

Removing an SSL certificate

Choose from one of the following options to remove an SSL certificate.

Remove from the Manage Websites page

  1. Navigate to the Manage Websites page.
  2. Open the SSL Security page:
    • If in Grid view, click the 'vertical 3 dots' button for your domain. From the popout menu, click the SSL Security link.
    • If in List view, click the 'vertical 3 dots' button to the right of your domain. From the popout menu, click the SSL Security link.
  3. On the Secure Certificates page, click the Remove Certificate button.
  4. Check the box and click Proceed with Certificate Removal.

Remove from the Secure Certificates page

  1. Navigate to the Secure Certificates page.
  2. To the right of your domain, click the Settings button.
  3. On the next page, click the Remove Certificate button.
  4. Check the box and click Proceed with Certificate Removal.
