Upgrade a WordPress site to DreamPress

Overview

You can upgrade a WordPress site on any hosting plan to a DreamPress plan. Upgrading adds a new DreamPress plan without removing your existing hosting plan.

What should I know before upgrading?

Please note the following before proceeding with the upgrade.

The old hosting plan

If your WordPress site is on a Shared, Managed VPS, or Dedicated Hosting plan, upgrading to DreamPress only adds a new DreamPress plan. It does not remove your old hosting plan, meaning you'll still be paying for the old plan and the new DreamPress plan.

• If you have only one website, you can close your existing hosting plan after the upgrade since you will only use the DreamPress plan going forward.

• If you have multiple websites on the old hosting plan, you must keep it active.

Installation directory

If your site is in a subdirectory, such as example.com/blog, the site moves into the primary directory when upgraded to DreamPress. For example, example.com/blog becomes example.com.

Also, any files currently in your primary directory will be deleted. Make sure to backup any necessary files before upgrading.

Testing before upgrading

It is a good idea to test your site before upgrading it to DreamPress to ensure it functions as intended. You can create a temporary dream.press domain and import your DreamHost WordPress install into it. View the following articles for details:

If you do not need to test your site first, proceed to the following instructions to upgrade it directly to DreamPress.

Upgrading without a DreamHost WordPress install

If your WordPress site is not currently using a DreamHost WordPress install, you can still upgrade to DreamPress. Contact support to request your existing WordPress site be converted into a DreamHost WordPress install. You can then proceed with the steps in this article.

How do I upgrade to DreamPress?

These steps upgrade an existing WordPress site to a DreamPress plan.

1. Navigate to the Manage Websites page.

2. Click the Manage button to open Website settings, which allows you to modify various configurations for your site.

   • If in Grid view, click the Manage button at the bottom of the website box.

   • If in List view, click the Manage button at the far right of your domain name.

3. Select the WordPress tab.

4. Next to DreamPress - Upgrade Eligible, click the Upgrade button.

5. Under Move Existing Site to Your Plan, confirm the correct website is listed.

6. Click Confirm & Add Site. Your site is then upgraded to the DreamPress plan.
