Changing your current SSL certificate into a Let's Encrypt or Sectigo certificate

Overview

This article describes the process of changing the type of SSL certificate on your domain to a Let's Encrypt or Sectigo certificate.

Changing the certificate

The following steps change the type of SSL certificate in use by a domain.

  1. Navigate to the Secure Certificates page.
  2. To the right of your domain, click the Settings button.
    The Current Certificate page displays.
  3. To the right, click the Add New Certificate button.
    The DreamHost Certificates page opens.
  4. Select which type of certificate you'd like to change to. You can choose either a free Let's Encrypt certificate or a paid Sectigo certificate.

Forcing your site to load HTTPS by default

When you add an SSL certificate to your website in the panel, DreamHost automatically redirects the URL visitors use to view your site from HTTP to HTTPS. The S ensures that your connection is encrypted. For example:

There's nothing on your end you must do to force your site to use the secure URL. See this article for additional information.
