Overview
This article explains how to use the traffic tab in the panel to view and interpret visitor metrics.
Background
The Visitors Page provides a comprehensive analysis of your website traffic. It details unique and cumulative requests and provides demographic information about your visitors, including the devices they use and their geographical location.
Viewing the Visitors traffic page
Follow these steps to view the Visitors Traffic graphs.
- Navigate to the Manage Websites page.
- Click the Manage button to open the Domain Settings page, which allows you to adjust various settings for your site.
- Click the Traffic tab.

The Traffic page opens and automatically displays a visitors graph.
Analyzing the Visitor traffic graphs
This section provides details on the different visitor traffic graphs available.
Recent traffic
Provides unique and total visitor counts over a timeline. Hover over the graphic for details on specific dates. For an extended view, click View More. Once in this page, you can choose to view the 'Last Month', 'Last 7 days', or 'Last 24 hours' reports. Click on the desired option located in the top right corner of the page.
The graph includes two lines:
- Total Requests — Represents all HTTP requests received by your server, This includes all the requests, even if they are made by the same user or IP address.
- Unique Requests — Represents the count of distinct requests made to the server. Even if the same request is made multiple times by the same user/IP, it's counted as one unique request.
Device Traffic
Provides a breakdown of visits between desktop and mobile devices. By selecting "Desktop" or "Mobile", you can focus on the respective data.
Page Views
Allows you to analyze visit trends across your most visited pages. It offers two viewing modes: list and graphics, which can be toggled at the top right corner.
Hovering over the graphic will show details for specific pages. By default, it shows the top 8 page visits, but you can expand this to display up to the top 100 by clicking View More.
IP Addresses
Displays the IP addresses and affiliated organizations of recent website visitors, along with the frequency of their visits. The default view shows the top 8 IP addresses, but for a more comprehensive list, select the View More option.
Your own IP appearing frequently usually suggests internal site communication, such as plugins, themes, or scheduled tasks operating. However, if a DreamHost IP displays an unusually high number of visits, it could suggest an issue. In this case contact support on the Contact Support page.
If you notice multiple requests from an unrecognized IP address, you can use your .htaccess file to deny it access to your site.
Visitors by Location
Provides an overview of global bot traffic and the top source countries. For a more detailed view, including region filters and an extended list of countries, click on View More.
