You can start building a website with Remixer, DreamHost's agentic AI website & app builder, for free right in the panel — no domain or paid plan is required to begin. This article walks you through building your site, refining it, and publishing it when you're ready.
How do I publish to my own custom domain?
To publish your app to a live custom domain, you need a paid Remixer plan, which includes built-in hosting. Adding Remixer to a custom website is a later step, not a first-step prerequisite — you build first, then publish when you're ready.
How do I build my website?
These instructions show you how to use Remixer to create and refine your new site.
How do I add information?
On the Remixer page, you will see a prompt box with a Build button. To get the best results, add as much information as possible here. The more detail you add, the more accurate and goal-aligned your generated website will be. You can include details such as:
Your business or site name
The tone and style you prefer (for example: professional, friendly, modern, etc.)
Visual style preferences
Inspiration websites
Contact information
Submit your initial description by clicking Build, which launches the tool and begins generating your site. You can also use the Visual Editor tool (located in the top left corner in Remixer), which allows you to make small edits.
Once complete, a preview of your new website appears.
How do I refine my idea?
You can then refine the content and layout further by adding more instructions to the chat box.
Uploading images
To upload images to your website, follow these steps:
On the top-right of the editor, click the media/image library icon. The image library opens and displays all images currently used on your site.
At the bottom of the library, select Upload Media.
Choose the images you want to upload from your device.
You can then reference the new images using the chat box to add or replace media in specific sections of your website.
How do I publish my website?
Once you are happy with your new site, you are ready to publish it. There are two options:
Publish to Preview (temporary staging subdomain)
Publish to Production (your live domain)
Option 1 — Publish to Staging
This option is useful if you want to preview and test your site before publishing it to your live domain.
In the top menu, click the Publish button.
In the pop-up, select Publish to Staging.
Your site is immediately published to a temporary domain shown.
View your new temporary domain by clicking the arrow icon next to the Publish to Staging button.
A new tab opens, displaying your temporary website ending in remixer.ai.
Option 2 — Publish to Production
This option publishes your new site directly to your live domain, making it publicly accessible.
In the top menu, click the Publish button.
In the pop-up, under Production, select a domain from the dropdown.
Click Connect.
Your site is immediately published to your live website.
View your new live domain by clicking the arrow icon next to the Publish to Production button.
A new tab opens, displaying your live website.
After publishing your site to your live domain, it may take some time for your content to appear online due to DNS propagation.
How do I get better results from my prompts?
Remixer does its best work when you're specific. Strong prompts usually say what you want, what to avoid, and how you'll judge the result:
"Make the homepage feel like a high-end bakery — warm colors, large photos. No stock-photo look."
"Add a booking form that saves each request to a table with name, date, and party size."
"Add a three-tier pricing section, with the middle tier highlighted."
You can start simple and refine through conversation, or write one detailed prompt up front with your goals, inspiration, and constraints. Both work: iterating is usually faster for design taste, and a detailed one-shot prompt is usually faster for structure.
Attach a screenshot to help Remixer solve problems
If something looks wrong, paste a screenshot of the issue into the chat so Remixer can see the layout and fix it. Showing the problem is often faster than describing it.
How do I resume editing?
To continue working on your website, simply open Remixer again and search for your site under Recent Projects. The tool will automatically load your existing site.
Once opened, you can continue editing by using the chat box to provide new instructions or prompts. Any changes you request will be applied to your existing site, allowing you to refine content, layout, and design without starting over.
