Overview
You can move from a VPS hosting plan to a Web Hosting, Managed VPS, Dedicated Server, or DreamPress plan. Since a VPS has no panel backup or migration tool, moving off of one is always a manual process — you export your data from the VPS yourself, then upload it to the new plan.
How do I move to another hosting plan?
The following sections explain how to move from a VPS to another hosting plan. Each destination plan is fully managed by DreamHost and includes a panel backup tool, but moving data onto it from a VPS is still a manual, one-time transfer rather than an automatic move. See Migrating between a VPS and a managed hosting plan for the full backup, transfer, and upload steps that apply to each of these destinations.
How do I move to a Web Hosting plan?
Add a Web Hosting plan to your account, then follow the manual export and upload steps in Migrating between a VPS and a managed hosting plan.
How do I move to a Managed VPS?
See Adding a Managed VPS for instructions on adding the plan, then follow the manual export and upload steps in Migrating between a VPS and a managed hosting plan.
How do I move to a Dedicated Server?
See Add a Dedicated server for instructions on adding the plan, then follow the manual export and upload steps in Migrating between a VPS and a managed hosting plan.
How do I move to DreamPress?
If you already have a WordPress site on your VPS, see Upgrade a WordPress site to DreamPress or Add DreamPress to a new domain, then follow the manual export and upload steps in Migrating between a VPS and a managed hosting plan.
How do I cancel my VPS after moving?
Once your move is confirmed working on the new plan, cancel your VPS from the Manage Account page. See Cancel a VPS for instructions. Unlike Managed VPS or Dedicated Server, canceling a VPS does not offer an option to automatically transfer remaining data to the new plan — canceling permanently deletes everything on the server, so make sure your move is complete before you cancel.
