What is a Dedicated Server?
A Dedicated Server is a server that is completely dedicated to your data alone. This means no other DreamHost customers have any access or share any resources with your sites or databases on that server.
Is a Dedicated Server more secure?
Because your data is fully isolated from other customers, you have a reduced attack surface and greater control over your security configuration.
What is a Dedicated Server used for?
Dedicated Servers are premium machines ideal for high-performance websites that require dedicated resources to run efficiently.
How much does a Dedicated Server cost?

Is root access available?
Dedicated Servers offer the ability to add an admin user, which are special users who have full access to the server. This admin user is given full root access to the Dedicated Server via the sudo command.
Be careful when you’re using an admin user as you will have the ability to disrupt system settings, which can disable your sites or server.
Is PHP Extended Support included?
Yes. Dedicated Hosting customers receive PHP Extended Support for free. This means you can continue running end-of-life (EOL) versions of PHP that would otherwise be unsupported.
EOL versions are available in the PHP Extension Manager in the panel and are tagged with Extended Support in the version dropdown, so they're easy to identify.
Re-imaging your server
There is a $100 fee to have your Dedicated Server re-imaged. If you'd like to proceed with this, contact technical support via email.
