Transferring a domain registration between DreamHost accounts

Overview

The transfer process between DreamHost accounts is very similar to transferring a domain from an external provider. First, the account holder that is releasing the domain must prepare the domain for transfer in their own panel, by following the steps in the Transfer a domain registration away from DreamHost article.

The account holder provides the authorization key/EPP code to the recipient of the domain. The recipient then follows the steps to initiate the transfer in to their account.

Due to ICANN's Transfer Policy, any change made to the registrant's name, organization, or email address will put the domain in a 60-day transfer lock; it will also trigger notification emails that are sent to the old and new registrant notifying them of the change.

What fees will I need to pay?

If you're transferring between DreamHost accounts, the receiving account is charged the incoming transfer fee. The domain’s expiration date is extended by one year when the transfer completes. View the link below for a list of transfer fees:

The account that is receiving the domain registration is the one responsible for paying the transfer fee.

International domains

Some international domains cannot be transferred from account to account using this process. In these cases, the receiving customer’s panel requests that they contact DreamHost support for further assistance.
