Overview
This article explains how to troubleshoot a misspelled domain registration recently purchased at DreamHost.
Every domain name purchased is unique. This means even a one-letter difference creates an entirely different domain.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the spelling of a registration after it is purchased. In this case, the only option is to purchase a new domain with the correct spelling.
Resolving a misspelled domain
Purchase a new domain registration
The first thing you should do is purchase a new domain registration with the correct spelling. See this article for more information about registering a new domain.
Cancel the registration (or let it expire)
After the new domain has been purchased, you can choose between the following two options regarding the misspelled domain.
Option 1 — Cancel the misspelled domain
-
Domains use various TLDs, such as .com, .net, .io, and .life. Some can be deleted within 5 days of purchase, however, this grace period is not available for all TLDs. Depending on the TLD you purchased, there may be no grace period at all.
Contact support immediately if you wish to cancel your recent purchase.
Option 2 — Let the misspelled domain expire
-
You can also let your domain expire. If you choose this option, the registration will remain active, and you will remain the owner until it expires. See this article for instructions on how to adjust the status of your domain to Let expire.
