Suspended and disabled accounts

Overview

If your account shows Suspended or Disabled in your panel, it is not currently active. A suspended account usually has an unpaid balance and reactivates once you pay it; a disabled account has been deactivated and requires contacting support to find out why. Both statuses deactivate hosting services and put your data at risk, so act as soon as possible.

Due to the deactivation of hosting services, both disabled and suspended accounts are at risk of data loss. If you see this notice, it's highly advised that you contact support as soon as possible for further information to avoid data loss.

Why is my account suspended?

If your account shows that it is suspended, it usually means that there is an unpaid balance. Your panel shows the amount due and the date of the suspension on each page. It also provides you with a link to make a payment for this due balance:

Account Suspended on April 8, 2024

Please pay your bill as soon as possible to prevent permanent data loss, or if you feel this to be in error, please contact support.

When an account is suspended for an unpaid balance, panel access is restricted, and your services are taken offline. To reactivate your services and panel, you must make a payment for the total outstanding balance on the Make Payment page.

What is the grace period?

DreamHost offers a 60-day grace period before suspending an account due to non-payment. If the account has a service balance that's 30 days past due, the web panel will become restricted until the balance is resolved.

The 60-day period begins when the oldest unpaid charge is billed.

How long does it take to reactivate my account after I make a payment?

After you make a payment, your account should automatically reactivate within an hour. If it's still not accessible after 2 hours, contact support.

Why is my account disabled?

If your account has been disabled, the following banner appears across the top of each page in your panel:

This account was disabled April 8, 2024! Please contact us if you have any questions

If your account has been disabled, you must Contact Support to find out why the account was disabled. If you cannot access your panel, you can use this form to contact DreamHost support.

For security reasons, DreamHost cannot provide information regarding disabled accounts to anyone other than the account owner.

How do I retain my data?

Depending on the length of time your account or hosting services were inactive (disabled/suspended), you may need to re-upload your website data from a backup (stored locally on your computer or through a third-party backup service).

DreamHost generally retains a two-week backup of your website files, though this is not guaranteed. Due to the deactivation of hosting services, both disabled and suspended accounts are at risk of data loss. If you see a notice, it's highly recommended that you contact support as soon as possible to learn more about how to avoid further data loss.

How do I close my account?
