Enable and manage DreamShield

Overview

The following describes how to add, manage, or remove the paid DreamShield plan for your website.

Background

DreamHost offers a paid security plan called DreamShield that you can enable through the panel. DreamShield allows you to scan your website for malware and includes the following:

  • When you add DreamShield, it immediately runs a scan on your site and will automatically scan it on a daily basis after that.
  • You are notified via email if DreamShield finds any issues. Your panel also displays this information.
  • If the site is clean, your panel shows this information. An email is also sent that lets you know your site is clean.

You can also review DreamShield's terms and notices for more information.

How to add or remove DreamShield

You can add or remove DreamShield in the panel by following these simple steps.

Adding DreamShield

You can only install DreamShield on a single domain or a single subdomain. If you wish to install it on both example.com and blog.example.com, you must add a separate service to each domain.

  1. Navigate to the Manage Websites page.
  2. Open the Security page by selecting one of the following:

    • If in Grid view, click the vertical three dots button under your domain. From the pop-up menu, click the Website Security link.
    • If in List view, click the vertical three dots button to the right of your domain. From the pop-up menu, click the Website Security link.

    The Security dashboard page opens.

  3. Scroll down to the DreamShield section.
  4. Click the Add to Cart button.
  5. Select either the Monthly or Yearly Plan.
  6. Review the order details and click the Submit Order button when finished. If needed, you can return to the DreamShield dashboard page later and click the shopping cart icon at the top when you're ready.

DreamShield is installed, scans your site, and displays the results when the scan completes. The DreamShield label also appears on your Security dashboard page.

FAQs

What do I do if DreamShield finds any issues with my website?

When DreamShield completes a scan of your website, it emails you the results and any issues found. The email also provides appropriate next steps (including links) to correct any intrusions or other threats.

Here are a few additional links to help you address any issues in the event that DreamShield detects any problems on your website:

How do I rescan my site after I clean it up?

After you've cleaned your site of any compromised code, you may want to confirm that it's now secure.

DreamShield runs once per day, so it will automatically inform you of any issues the next time it runs. However, if you'd like an immediate scan, please submit a support ticket with the topic set to Abuse/Security. A DreamHost support representative will then scan it for you.
