Move data from Shared Hosting to a private server

Overview

Move all users and domains from a Shared server to a Managed VPS or Dedicated Server.

This transfer moves only your websites and users — your email keeps functioning normally throughout, with no extra steps needed.

Prerequisites

Ensure your new Managed VPS has enough room to migrate your user's content. Check your Disk Usage page to confirm your users will fit on the new server. You can also click the View Disk Usage link under Other Active Services on the Manage Account page.

How do I migrate my sites and users?

To transfer all of your account's users and websites:

  1. Navigate to the Servers & Usage page.
  2. To the right of your Managed VPS or Dedicated server, click the Manage button to open the settings page.
  3. Under the Manage section, click the Transfer button (VPSs) or the Migrate button (Dedicated Servers).

A popout titled 'Transfer ALL Users and Websites from Shared Hosting to PS###' appears.

The Transfer/Migrate button appears only if there are Shared Hosting plans on your account to transfer from.

Other hosting plans on your account will remain active after the move completes.

  4. In the popout, click the Transfer button to proceed.

How do I close Shared Hosting?

The transfer of all users and domains can take some time, depending on the amount of data to be moved.

After the transfer completes, make sure you manually close any plan you no longer require to avoid being charged.
