Overview
You can change or reset the DreamHost panel password for your account's primary user from the Security page in the panel, or via the Forgot password link if you can't log in. This article explains how, including DreamHost's compromised-password check.
Before you begin
Every DreamHost account has a primary email address assigned to it. The primary email address provides you with access to the DreamHost panel, which you can access at panel.dreamhost.com.
How does DreamHost check if my password is compromised?
When setting or changing your password, DreamHost checks it against the haveibeenpwned's API.
If your password has been found in the API or if it's identified as weak, the panel advises you (but does not force you) to update it to make it more secure.
How do I set my account password?
After you sign up for an account, you are sent a welcome email containing a link to the panel. The welcome email allows you to set your panel password for the first time. See this article for guidelines on how to create a secure password.
How do I reset my password?
There are two ways you can reset your password.
Option 1 — If you cannot log in to your panel (Forgot password link)
To reset this password, visit this link and enter your email address. The system will send you an email with further instructions.
Only the primary email set up on your account can reset your password using this link. If you require other people to access your account, you must set up Account Privileges for each new user.
Option 2 — If you can log in to your panel (Reset password in the panel)
- Navigate to the Security page.
- At the top, enter your current password, followed by your new password.
- Click the Change button to update it.
